Oral Lesions

Oral lesions, or sores in your mouth, are usually minor irritations that only last a week or two and can be treated at home. There are countless causes of lesions in the mouth and throat including biting your tongue, cheek, or lip; an irritation from a sharp object; burning your mouth; an infection with the herpes simplex virus, or oral cancer.

If a sore in your mouth seems unusually painful, making it difficult to eat, drink, swallow, talk, or breathe, or if the sore lasts more than a week or two, please give us a call. We can treat most lesions such as canker sores or herpes simplex with a laser for rapid healing and relief.

In most cases mouth sores have few long-term effects, but if we suspect that your lesion is from oral cancer, we may will take a biopsy and send you to a specialist.
