When patients are diagnosed with periodontal disease, our team first considers the potential of non-surgical treatment options. Dr. Sam Morhaim and Dr. Navid Baradarian have a conservative approach to periodontics and use the least invasive options possible to sufficiently treat a patient’s oral health concerns. We make patient safety and comfort a priority and utilize the latest techniques and most advanced equipment available. By doing so, we can significantly improve a patient’s oral health while avoiding the extensive work and often painful experience of traditional surgery. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our non-surgical treatment methods, please contact us today.
Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is often the first step in the treatment of gum disease. This involves a thorough gum and tooth cleaning by a periodontist. During the treatment, plaque and tartar are removed through a scaling process, extending underneath the gum line. Your periodontist may also plane the surface of your tooth root, which smooths it to promote the reattachment of your gums to the tooth’s surface.
Antibiotic Prescription Drug Therapy
Antibiotic therapy is often recommended following scaling and root planing to help control bacterial growth. Our periodontists utilize the antibiotic Arestin®, placing it in periodontal pockets to help maintain a healthy environment that is free of toxins. This helps control infections caused by gum disease and prevent further damage from occurring.
