As summer comes to an end, it’s time to think about back-to-school activities. Shopping for school supplies, renting instruments, organizing car pool and after-school programs will soon be on the schedule. In preparation for your child going to school, take time to review his/her medical and dental records. New York State requires parents/guardians present evidence to a public school’s medical office that his/her children have had a recent dental examination. Schools now require having a dental health certificate on file along with their immunization and vision reports. Are you prepared? Send your child back to school with a healthy smile! Scheduling routine examinations will ensure children stay healthy and start the year off right. The American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry suggest parents take their child to a dentist as soon as the first tooth appears. Calling your Dentist ahead of time will help avoid the last minute rush to schedule an appointment. Regular preventive dental care, such as cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants can help prevent chronic problems and save money.
