FIELDS WITH AN ASTERISK ARE MANDATORY

Patients who need oral surgery in Great Neck, NY, often have plenty of concerns and rightly so. At Great Neck Dental Associates, we understand that oral surgery isn’t an easy experience for many patients who can be anxious or nervous however, our priority is to ensure a safe and comfortable visit. Finding a dentist near you is recommended because oral surgery requires several visits in most cases. There will at least be one visit for the procedure and another for follow-up.

Dental Extractions

Dental extractions can be simple and not require surgery. There are a few instances where the surgery will be required. Wisdom teeth are frequently extracted when they don’t have room to grow and become impacted, or they start to affect the teeth around them. When the tooth isn’t above the gum line, an incision needs to be made to free it.

Wisdom tooth extractions are common, and the good news is that these teeth aren’t essential. Replacing them isn’t done because their presence makes no difference.

Flap Surgery and Grafts

Patients with periodontal disease might require flap surgery in severe cases. When the condition doesn’t respond to scaling and root planing or antibiotics, flap surgery is needed. In flap surgery, we create a flap by elevating the gums to reach and clean under them. The gums are then stitched back in place.

Severe periodontal disease can be associated with gum and bone loss. Jawbone loss will eventually lead to loose teeth. To maintain the integrity of the mouth and tissues supporting teeth, soft tissue, and bone grafts can be done. In a graft, we use synthetic or natural grafts to replace missing tissues.

The adequate level of sedation and anesthesia is determined before each procedure. You will remain comfortable while we work whether we use local or general anesthesia. Give us a call today to schedule an appointment!
